Who am I?
First and foremost, I am doing my best to consciously and intentionally raise two beautiful rambunctious little boys, Everett age four and Lincoln age 2, whilst maintaining my own sense of self.
Secondly, I am an entrepreneurial chameleon who most commonly wears the work title “Marketing Enthusiast”. Presently by day I am the marketing and communications manager of an African renewable energy company. Our work was recently aired on the BBC and published in Business Day among many media outlets and, in the last 4 months, our web traffic has tripled due to our strategic digital marketing plan and content management campaign.
Speaker & Marketing Support for #mompreneurs
Still passionate about early motherhood and entrepreneurship, I speak to audiences of women, usually #mompreneurs, on “LIVING YOUR LIFE AND BRAND STRATEGY”.
I also offer my time creating in-depth brand analysis and marketing strategies for women starting out in business, or who need a refreshed approach to connecting with their audience. A recent testimony from a client says “Christina assisted me in streamlining and defining my marketing goals and helped me establish a clear strategy. I left our session feeling motivated, excited and most importantly secure in my next steps.”
With my roots in working at events and then in event management, it is only natural that I continue to host my own events wherever I see the potential for awesome connection of brands and community. I co-hosted the “Cape Town Brands Online Event” this year in January, bringing in over 70 guests (including local celebs such as Joanne Strauss!). Now, I am spear-heading a “Parent with Sense” event hosting South Africa’s most loved parenting guru Meg Faure, on 31 August this year.
Lastly, and perhaps with the most passion & purpose, I am in the process of writing & editing a memoir about transcending trauma. It is called “ADOPTED: Finding a New Kind of Happy”.
Growing up in a dysfunctional and poor family with alcoholic, drug-using parents and having only rare attendance to school, I was subjected to seeing my mom engaged in gang violence and, after moving states 4 times and attending at least 6 different schools, was eventually abandoned when I was 10 years old.
After spending some time in a foster home, I was quickly adopted by a new family and tried my best to adapt to this whole new world – a true rags to riches transition. What happened in my life after being physically adopted was a series of emotionally adopting new coping mechanisms to survive this trauma and overcome the shame as best I could. From childhood obesity to teenage anorexia, co-dependency, perfectionism and then my own dependent drinking habit, I have tried them all.
This story is about the journey of overcoming trauma and shame and ADOPTING a NEW KIND OF HAPPY that helps us LET GO and transcend trauma forever. My hope is that sharing this story chronicling my own healing and transcendence will inspire others to realise the easy CHOICE they also have, to ADOPT and experience a NEW KIND OF HAPPY.
